PROGRAM STRATEGY

Four Components of Women of Tomorrow

Mentoring & Guest Speakers
The Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program (WOT) is designed to help any student who is not living up to her full potential. While this description covers virtually every high school student, we ask that the WOT School Coordinator work with other school personnel to identify a given number (10-20 depending on the number of mentors available to the school) of WOT Mentees using the Profile of a WOT Mentee (included later in this notebook). A WOT Mentee must have a desire to participate fully in this unique program and understand that it is a commitment for her entire high school career.

WOT has a list of Guest Speakers in topics ranging from Skin Care, to Financial Planning to a “Power of Me” workshop. You may contact the WOT Program Coordinator to schedule a Guest Speaker.

Career-Focused Field Trips
WOT aims to coordinate 1-2 field trips for each school during each year. Field trips include trips to area businesses of interest and workplaces. Past field trips have included Judge’s Chambers, Irene Marie Modeling Agency, Behind-the-Scenes at the Florida Marlins, Telemundo Network, HCA Nursing Tour, Miami-Dade County Government Center, Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, the Operating Room at Mount Sinai Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, CitiGroup Private Banking and backstage at The Miami City Ballet.

Specialized College Campus Visits
WOT also coordinates college campus visits that give the mentees a closer look at what their college experience could be like. Past college visits include Miami Dade College, St. Thomas University, Broward Community College, Miami International University of Art and Design, Nova Southeastern University, DeVry University, and Palm Beach Atlantic University.

WOT Scholarship Opportunities
Currently, WOT offers several scholarships, the award amounts and purposes vary. Please contact the WOT Program Coordinator for more information on scholarships available in a given year.

To be eligible for a WOT Scholarship, a WOT Mentee must have perfect attendance at her mentoring sessions and be a graduating senior, or expect to receive a high school degree equivalent—such as a GED.
