Miami Lakes: Young Ladies Learn Success Strategies
Miami Herald Staff Report
More than 80 high school girls who are part of the Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program got professional ethics and etiquette training during a workshop and luncheon hosted by the Mandarin Oriental Miami, featuring speakers from the county Commission on Ethics & Public Trust and Irene Marie Management Group.
The event took place Jan. 11 at the Mandarin Oriental, 500 Brickell Key Dr.
The workshop and luncheon were part of an ongoing educational training organized by Women of Tomorrow's volunteer mentors to help provide young at-risk women with skills to improve their chances of professional success.
Robert Thompson, coordinator of Community Outreach for the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics & Public Trust and Irene Marie, president and owner of Irene Marie Management Group, spoke to the young women about the importance of self-esteem, maintaining ethics in business and practicing professional etiquette skills.
The students came from Norland High School, Miami Lakes Educational Center, Carol City High and Young Women's Preparatory.
Women of Tomorrow was founded by television journalist Jennifer Valoppi and Telemundo President Don Browne in 1997. The organization has provided more than $1.5 million in scholarships to help enhance and enrich their lives through education.
